Parkinson’s Association of San Diego Hosts Annual Step by Step 5K Walk and Health Fair on April 5 Creating a Path of Support and Resources for the Parkinson’s Community to Help Live Their Best Life Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. with the event kicking off at 9 a.m., and ending at 11:30 a.m. PDT. Joining the Step by Step 5K Walk and Health Fair is a first step toward support and resources to help those affected by Parkinson’s live their best life. This year’s event unites more than 1,200 participants, offering connections, care and access to 70 health exhibitors. and free coffee and donuts. Dogs are also welcome to join the fun and will receive a special bandana for the walk. Every dollar raised for the Walk stays in San Diego County, directly supporting PASD’s mission to provide essential resources, education and support to thousands of local residents impacted by Parkinson’s disease—ensuring they receive the care and assistance they need. Music festivals are canceling their events like maybe never before. Call it the music festival recession.

During our Chocolate Making Classes you will learn, create, eat and laugh! We offer chocolate making classes for adults and children 5 years and older*. Our hands-on chocolate making classes are about 1 ½- 2 hours long and limited to 12 students (or 12 child/ parent teams). There you will learn the basics of working with chocolate, create your own bark, molded chocolates and more. During class, students will play with favorite flavors like salted caramel and peanut butter cup and select monthly themed flavors made by chocolatier Michelle Lomelin. Students will also select from more than two dozen ingredients as they personalize a chocolate bark – with favorite flavors including freeze dried fruits and savory pretzels, potato chips and a wide selection of nuts. Plus, you will get to keep all your creations! Our chocolate making classes are offered one Saturday a month and each month has its own theme. For molded chocolates we will have Meyer lemon ganache and black currant caramel. For barks we will have freeze dried raspberries and toasted cacao nibs. We will paint from a life model on location at La Jolla Shores. Students are also welcome to draw instead of paint from the model if they prefer. Aren Skalman Community Room Artist in Residence July 31 to Aug. 20. 2023 About Aren’s Residency at Art Produce: Transforming an object’s form and function is an exercise in navigating the fluid and reciprocal boundaries between self and other. During this residency I will be revisiting my family’s history of traveling to other countries in order to pursue creative endeavors. By displaying objects and imagery, painting, sculpting, and conversing with the community, I will examine ideas around inspiration, hybridization, appropriation, and evangelism. About the Artist: Aren Skalman is an artist based in San Diego. In 2012 and 2013 he traveled to India as a Fulbright Scholar, where he constructed a rolling, musical sculpture. Aren presented a solo exhibition of sound-generating objects at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library in winter 2016. His work has been included in group exhibitions at Bread and Salt, Space 4 Art, SDSU Downtown Gallery, San Diego Art Institute, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, San Diego City College and Centro Estatal de las Artes, Tijuana & Ensenada. In 2017—along with other Ready Lane participants—he exhibited site-specific objects, altering the space inside a decommissioned Boeing 747 aircraft on the campus of Instituto Tecnológico de Tijuana, in collaboration with the aeronautics department. Aren is currently the Lead Exhibits Designer + Fabricator at the San Diego Natural History Museum.
