Mondays, April 14, 21, 28, May 5 & 19 From 6-8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6-9 p.m. In this 5-week series, students create functional pieces with an emphasis on decorative techniques for surface design. We will explore colorful marbling techniques and mocha diffusion. Working with mid fire clay, students will complete multiple projects and will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors throughout the course. Beginning and more advanced students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create pieces that we’ll utilize the skills on that we explore in class. Materials fee $10 paid to instructor. Create your own handmade ceramic pottery! Mondays, March 3, 10, 17, 24 & April 7, from 6-8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6-9 p.m. In this 5-week class, instructor Lydia Kardos will teach the basics of handbuilding to create functional and sculptural ceramics. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques with glazes. Students will complete various projects throughout the course, learning the basics of clay materials and handbuilding — skills necessary to work independently in open studio. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors. All materials provided. Two Another are Eliot Porter and Angus Campbell, a musical duo originating from Sydney, Australia. Their kaleidoscopic mix of Electronic, Alternate RnB, Indie Pop and Soul has been heard across the globe since joining forces in 2015, amassing a following of over 1.8 million monthly listeners and over 400 million streams to date, with tour dates spanning across Europe, the Americas, the UK and back home in Australia. Now based in Europe, the band’s global origin story lies under the Australian sun with Eliot and Angus meeting in their high school music program where they were taught audio production by hometown dance-music-icons Bag Raiders. Tuesday is Election Day for the District 1 San Diego County Supervisor seat. We have the details voters need to know. Then, the Trump administration cut funding to legal aid organizations who represent unaccompanied migrant children in deportation hearings. The organizations are now suing to restore that funding. Finally, President Donald Trump has also cut health care funding that would’ve come from the Centers for Disease Control. San Diego is missing out on $40 million of that funding.

Tuesdays, April 15, 22, 29, May 6 & 20 From 6-8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6-9 p.m. In this 5-week series, students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create functional pieces with an emphasis on decorative techniques. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques with underglazes and slips. Students will complete multiple projects throughout the course while applying handmade stencils and layering techniques with colorful patterns as well textured colorful designs using the sgraffito technique. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors through the course. All materials provided. Leucadia-based mixed media artist Roy Jenuine hosts an exhibit – "Roy Jenuine: Modern Folk Art" – in Solana Beach, showcasing a lifetime of work from 1978 through today. Jenuine has spent his life’s work blending wood, photography and found materials to create artful masterpieces spanning functional furniture to mixed-media assemblage. The temporary, early summer exhibition will take place from June 9 and run through July 6, with an opening night reception, Friday, June 13 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Following the opening party, which is open to the public, the gallery will be open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jenuine’s work explores materials, finishes, and craftsmanship, as well as observations about his surroundings. He finds humor in the everyday, captures nostalgia, pushes the boundaries of function and form. He aligns himself with folk art and architecture, addressing both complex modernist aesthetics and found elements from the salvage yard. Drawing from his childhood in Los Angeles, early 1970s residency at the radical architectural project Arcosanti, and formal training at San Diego State University, Jenuine has developed a distinctive visual vocabulary that is rigorous, fun, meditative and truly original. The Library's Autumn Concert Series takes place on Fridays from September 6 to October 25. Each concert will begin at 1 p.m. in the Winn Room. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance. Our first performance of the series features the Camarada Tango Quartet, live before their second tour in Argentina. The mission of CAMARADA is to elevate and enrich the San Diego community and beyond by presenting phenomenal chamber music concerts, while engaging diverse audiences through visionary and educational programming, featuring living composers, commissioning new music, and igniting a powerful connection between the audience, artists and music. Camarada is dedicated to presenting invigorating performances of musical masterworks. Established in 1994, Camarada shares the joy of chamber music by pairing performers of the highest caliber with intimate spaces throughout San Diego. Original founders Beth Ross Buckley, Ann Chase, and Mary Barranger had a vision of concert experiences that are inviting and engaging for audiences.
