Bread & Salt and curator/artist Jason Sherry come together to present an experimental Halloween art experience of multiple installations only on Friday, October 27th, and Saturday, October 28 from 5 PM - 9 PM. This group show of over 20 artists will feature light, sound, and sculptural installations that run the gamut of Halloween lore. Scenes and performances will take audiences from the horrifying to the campy. Each experience will be set together in the old brick room of the Bread and Salt galleries and laid out in a haunted house-styled maze. From nightmares of the natural world to the horrors of technology – this project will evolve throughout the night and offer audiences a taste of fear and satire as told by the experimental artist community of San Diego. Donations are accepted for entry. YELLOWSTONE fans and lovers of great southern country and rock will enjoy Whiskey Myers. After their 2018 Yellowstone performances catapulted them into the limelight, the band's three albums moved into the Top 10 iTunes country charts, and their most recent album at the time, "Mud," reached No. 1 on the charts, with their song "Stone" reaching No. 9 in all genres. Likely best known for their inclusion in the first season of the American neo-western, YELLOWSTONE, in 2018, Whiskey Myers was not only a part of the soundtrack, but the band also performed as a band in a bar in several of the episodes. The east Palestine,Texas-based rock and country group have refined their roots rock sound by morphing their inspiration taken from the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr., Waylon Jennings and Nirvana to name just a few. Exploring versatile running stitches Learn the traditional arts of creative embellishing and mending! The technique of decorating a fabric surface with running stitches can be found in many cultures and in the scope of this class we’ll focus on 2 types of stitching: Sashiko, which means “little stabs” in Japanese, and kantha, which translates to rags in Sanskrit. This workshop will teach the primary function of sashiko and kantha stitching which was: to mend and reuse old treasured fabric, to gather layers of fabric which then provided warmth and insulation, and/or strengthen the fabric for heavy usage. However the decorative aspect of this timeless practice became just as important and valued, and its rich “vocabulary” translates into endless pattern. On the first class we will create a sampler. On the second class, students will bring a piece of fabric or clothing they want to mend or decorate. This class is appropriate for ages 12 years and older.
