Sunday, November 22, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Beginners welcome! In this introductory workshop, you’ll learn a fun, accessible method of applying enamel with stencils through simple, easy‑to‑follow demonstrations. The studio provides all tools and materials, and you’ll create a vividly colored pendant or pair of earrings using the same art form practiced by ancient Egyptians, Fabergé, art deco masters, and contemporary designers. You’ll work with copper and pure silver foil over copper as your base, sift powdered glass enamel, use stencils, and learn how to safely fire your piece in a kiln. Choose a premade stencil, bring your own, or get creative with any small flat item (1.5″ or smaller) that has an interesting silhouette or perforations. You’ll have time to complete at least one finished piece, experiment with transparent and opaque colors, and enjoy how approachable the science behind this ancient craft can be. This workshop is for beginners and anyone wanting a refresher. Masks and safety goggles will be provided. Learn to Carve a Spoon! Saturday, October 31, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. -OR- Sunday, November 29, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Beginning spoon carving. In this introduction course of carving Woodworker Paul Maschka will be sharing the ancient style of green wood hand carving with simple but very precise hand tools–a small carving axe, straight blade carving knife and a curved hook knife. With proper techniques, green wood can be intricately sculpted into extremely beautiful, functional and unique pieces of art. Paul specializes in Viking-era cutlery. This Scandinavian style is still being crafted around the world. In this workshop, students will be creating a straight tea spoon or straight cooking spoon. This class is designed for the beginner as well as more experienced carvers. There is no prerequisite for this class. All of the necessary tools and materials will be available to students for this class. Tools and chopping blocks will be available for purchase after the class. No experience necessary.
