  • In a highly anticipated return to San Diego, Le Poème Harmonique, led by Vincent Dumestre with mezzo-soprano Eva ZaĂŻcik, will open the San Diego Early Music Society's 2023-2024 season with a lush program of music that would have been heard in the court of young Louis XIV before Versailles. The ensemble will perform popular songs drawn from the group’s award-winning collections of traditional French chansons, as well as music by MouliniĂ©, de Lalande, and Charpentier, and excerpts from the first operas by Lully and Cavalli performed in France—the repertoire that has earned the ensemble countless accolades. Releasing more than twenty albums since 2018, the prolific ensemble has been described as “tremendously skilled and fetchingly entertaining” (Jon Sobel, Blogcritics, 2016), while Eva ZaĂŻcik has been praised for her “clear mezzo-soprano voice…tonal purity, tightly controlled vibrato and fluent virtuosity” (Nicholas Anderson, Classical Music, 2022).
