Miracle Babies, a nonprofit organization whose mission is dedicated to helping perinatal mothers and their families during their time of need by providing transportation, mental health assistance and supportive services, will be hosting its next diaper distribution on Saturday, June 8th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Mira Mesa High School (10510 Marauder Way, San Diego, CA 92126). Registered guests will be able to attend the free diaper distribution from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then it will open to the public from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Over 350 local families are anticipated to attend. Registration is open through Friday June 8th at 12 p.m. or until supplies last. Since the creation of their diaper distributions in 2020, Miracle Babies has supplied over 1.5 million diapers to over 15,000 families in need. To ease the burden of financial stress, diaper drives are for all families, not just families with babies in the NICU. Families in need of products should register online at the Miracles Babies website to ensure availability of diaper sizes. Diaper donations and volunteers are welcome and accepted at all distributions. About Justin & Melonie Grinnell MELONIE GRINNELL is an active as an educator and performer. She began studying piano at an early age and has since been recognized for her skills as a pianist, and her abilities as a vocalist, music educator, and musical director. Melonie received her Bachelors of Music degree in Music Education with jazz emphasis from the University of Miami and a Masters of Music performance degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University. Additionally, she is on the faculty for the Francis Parker/KSDS 88.3 Summer Jazz Workshop where she teaches jazz piano and co-directs middle school to high school student ensembles. She is also active as an adjudicator for instrumental jazz festivals including the Coronado/COSA Jazz Festival and the KSDS Jazz 88/CMEA festival. JUSTIN GRINNELL is a San Diego-based freelance jazz bassist and music educator. More importantly, he is a husband to pianist/educator Melonie Grinnell and father to their two sons. In addition to performing, Justin maintains an active teaching schedule as adjunct faculty at University of San Diego and Grossmont College, and as faculty for the Francis Parker Annual Summer Jazz Workshop. He has also served as an adjudicator and clinician at local music festivals, such as the Coronado Jazz Festival and the San Diego Bass Fest. Justin received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Jazz Performance from San Diego State University while studying with bassists Gunnar Biggs and Bert Turetzky. Justin also achieved ABD (all but dissertation) status for a doctoral degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Southern California. Besides studying privately with Los Angeles' first-call jazz bassist, Darek Oles, Justin's enrollment at USC gave him the opportunity to study with internationally-recognized jazz artists Peter Erskine, Russ Ferrante, Bob Mintzer, and Alan Pasqua. Kaylee Daugherty is an up-and-coming singer in the San Diego jazz scene. With roots in gospel and R&B, her musical interpretations come with soul and passion. She is humbled to play with some of the best musicians around and to have played at a great variety of venues in Southern California, ranging from the lively wineries of Temecula, the intimate coffeeshops of Oak Glen, to the upscale restaurants of Laguna Beach. With a repertoire of upwards 300 songs in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French, and in the styles of swing, blues, bossa nova, boleros and funk, Kaylee has a song for everyone. Whether in a duo, trio, or with the energy of a quartet+, Kaylee can elevate the experience of any space. Kaylee’s favorite part of performing is bringing joy to her audiences through the universal language of music. Her music makes kids dance and gives older folk a sigh of nostalgia. About Antar Martin Antar Martin, Upright and Electric bassist, and composer/arranger from Toledo, Ohio, is a versatile and expressive musician in San Diego’s Community of Musicians. Classically trained on violin from age 10 and transitioning to bass at 12, this was a major turning point for Antar as his creativity started to blossom from being exposed to music atypical to his surrounds, from artists such as Leo Kottke, Etta Baker, Seamus Egan, and Tony Geballe to name a few, these kinds of sounds help to navigate through the world of artist like Bill Evans, Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane and the like. Antar excelled in music all through school in classical and jazz capacities. After high school, Antar enlisted in the US Navy as a Musician. While living in San Diego, Antar has played with Gilbert Castellanos, Charles McPherson, Kamau Kenyatta, Mikan Zlatkovich, John Cain and Joe Morillo in addition to many other musicians in San Diego. He has performed with Bill Watrous, Charles McPherson, Abraham Laboriel, Poncho Sanchez, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Alex Acuna, Akira Jimbo, Rene Camacho, Cuba’s “El Negro” Hernandez, Gilbert Castellanos, Peter Sprague. His music arrangements also include a “Tribute to Frank Sinatra”, performed by the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, an arrangement for strings for Luis Miguel, and an orchestral arrangement for The San Diego Symphony. "Finding Your Senses" art and poetry exhibit serves as a catalyst for introspection, empathy, and appreciation of the diverse ways in which humans perceive and experience the world. By fostering a deeper understanding of the mutable nature of sensory perception, the exhibit encourages visitors to embrace differences, cultivate empathy, and celebrate the richness of human experience. The exhibit prompts reflection on how alterations in sensory perception, whether due to trauma or aging, can profoundly affect individuals and communal understanding.
