  • What can you say about Norah Jones? Ms. Jones is a multi-GRAMMY® winning singer and pianist who loves playing music with people, so she recently started her own podcast, "Playing Along", to do just that. On March 8th she will release her ninth solo studio album Visions, a collaboration with producer and multi-instrumentalist Leon Michels. Visions is a vibrant and joyous 12-song set that finds Jones singing about feeling free, wanting to dance, making it right, and acceptance of what life brings. It’s the yang to the yin that was Pick Me Up Off The Floor, Jones’ last album of new original songs which was released early in the pandemic lockdown of 2020 and foreshadowed many of the dark emotions of that period. • The STRAY CATS, the band that put Rockabilly music back on the record charts in the early '80s, scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to a striking visual 1950’s style brought “up to date” with exaggerated pompadours and colorful tattoos and as well as genuine musical chops that evoked the best players of rockabilly's original heyday. Formed by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer, upright bass player Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom in the Long Island town of Massapequa, NY, in 1979, the trio shared a love for Rockabilly music. After banging around New York for a few months in the summer of 1980, and seeing a pompadoured kid on the cover of UK magazine NME, they hopped a plane to London where a rockabilly revival movement was just beginning to emerge. Their massive hits and videos include “Runaway Boys," "Rock This Town," "Stray Cat Strut” "(She's) Sexy + 17" and "I Won't Stand in Your Way." This is a rental event at The Rady Shell, presented by AEG/Goldenvoice. The San Diego Symphony does not appear on this program. • In the writing world tropes are sometimes dismissed as being cliche or, horror of horrors, as commercial. You bet your booty they are. Tropes are cliches because they work. They are plot themes that readers have proven are favorites. And much as we writers like to think of ourselves as creative and artistic, we also want to make money doing it. Which means using tropes to sell our work, in our plotting, in our titles and in our blurbs. In this workshop we will identify some of the leading plot tropes, outline the reader expectations of those tropes and explore other trope tools that will assist in plugging plot holes. I invite you to strap on your writer’s toolbelt and prepare to sharpen a much used tool. For more information visit: writeyourstorynow.org Stay Connected on Facebook and Instagram
