Learn to basketweave with Marsha Orr! The Lace Collar basket presents many traditional weaving techniques in a small project (5” x 8”) that can be accomplished in an afternoon. Weaving techniques include creating a solid woven base, twining, over-under interrupted weave, 3-Rod wale, and the final flourish, creating a beautiful braided rim. The basket can be woven in natural reed, stained, or dyed reed can be added for color. Additional colors of reed will be available in class for students to weave with. This beginner-friendly workshop will teach you several different macrame knots and also help develop your knotting skills. Finished shelf and hanging dimensions are approximately 12 inches wide by 36 inches in length. Choose from a basic Pine wood shelf, or upgrade to a darker-hued Walnut wood. This beginner 3-hour woodworking workshop will acquaint students with a woodturning lathe, its parts, the tools needed, safety tips, tool sharpening techniques and how to shape wood on a lathe. The class will consist of students learning to round a piece of square stock, learning the four basic cuts and turning a honey dipper as their take home project.
