  • Saturday, July 11, from 2-5 p.m. Weave your own stunning bracelet cuff using dyed reed and cane over a metal bracelet blank that can be sized to fit your wrist. Various colors of dyed reed will be available. You can select the weaving pattern that includes the Japanese knot or the Castle version. The bracelet cuff makes a fabulous gift or keep it for yourself. Students: Please bring sturdy scissors & an old towel if you can! No experience necessary.   • Make your own custom T-shirt in a day! Sunday, June 28, from 1-5 p.m. In this workshop you will learn the differences between knits and the techniques and equipment needed to sew on them. You will put these skills and tools to use by completing a personal T-shirt to take home. Students will also receive an instructional handout to take home with sewing tips for sewing with and on knits. Please note, if bringing your own sewing machine, it is very important to make sure it is fully functional before class. REQUIREMENT: If you are new to using a sewing machine, you must take Family & Beginner Sewing 101 & Family & Beginner Sewing 102 first. In order to enroll in this class, a student must know how to thread and use a/their sewing machine, have a basic understanding of fabric cutting and iron pressing techniques, and be comfortable with beginner sewing techniques. All materials are included.   • Create your own unique grater & spoons! Tuesdays, June 30 & July 14, from 6-8:30 p.m. Ages 15+ welcome! In this 2-part series, students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create functional and fun pieces. Working with mid-fire clay, we will explore handbuilding forms and decorative techniques to create one of a kind ceramic garlic graters & spoons. Students will create and build their pieces in the first class and glaze their creations in the second class. Students will learn the art of glazing, with many decorative techniques. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors in this course. Beginners welcome! All materials provided. Additional optional materials available via the instructor for a fee.   • The Spreckels Organ Society presents the 38th Annual San Diego International Summer Organ Festival, the largest organ festival in the United States, featuring the historic Spreckels Organ, the largest open-air musical instrument in the world, with 5,098 pipes of up to 32-feet long, and nine percussion instruments located throughout the building. The ever-popular season finale, featuring “ORGAN-ISM,” the Spreckels Organ Pavilion’s Rock Band – the only Rock Band in the world that features a real pipe organ! They will be performing great hits by The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Deep Purple and more... The summer-long festival – directed by Raúl Prieto Ramírez, Spreckels Organ Society’s Artistic Director and San Diego’s Civic Organist – takes place in the heart of Balboa Park, from July 13 through Sept. 7. These 90-minute, free admission concerts by acclaimed international artists are brought to the Spreckels Organ Pavilion each Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. by the Spreckels Organ Society. The concerts are free thanks to the support of the Society’s sponsors, donors, members and volunteers. This season, the Monday evening concerts feature artists from five different nations, making it a truly international festival. The variety of concerts is broad with something for everyone.
