The monthlong Hispanic Heritage Month observation will kick off with Otay Ranch Town Center's annual Celebration and Family Festival on Tuesday, September 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Located in the heart of the eastern portion of Chula Vista, this community retail and dining destination is proud to once again host this celebration filled with live music, cultural performances and free fun for the whole family celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month which runs September 15 to October 15. "Our annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration is a much-loved event for people to come together and honor the traditions and culture of our Hispanic community," said Otay Ranch Town Center General Manager Tim Kilcourse. "We pair the event with our weekly Farmers Market which features a large number of Hispanic and Latin themed businesses and food vendors, making it a fantastic family afternoon," he added. The event will feature music, meet and greet opportunities with themed characters, sweet treats and giveaways, a face painter and kids' activities tied to Hispanic Heritage Month. First added in 2024, this year's event brings back "Salsa Under the Stars," a pop-up Salsa dance celebration and musical performance that will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., overlapping with many of the event elements, with guests having many activities to choose from. Hosted by the Manny Cepeda Orchestra quartet, this free program encourages anyone interested in getting their salsa on with some basic instruction and no partner needed, along with fantastic live music to get your feet moving! Cellist Paul Tseng and pianist Ching-Ming Cheng return to Intimate Classics at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, for an afternoon of beautiful music, captivating stories, and a journey from the Classical era into the heart of Romanticism. Bridge to the Romantic Era explores the remarkable transformation of music through works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Saint-Saëns. The program opens with Beethoven's delightful variations on a theme from Handel's "Judas Maccabaeus," followed by his dramatic Sonata No. 2 in G minor, an early masterpiece that already hints at the emotional intensity of the Romantic era. Mendelssohn's exquisite "Romance Without Words," written for the young French cellist Lise Cristiani, offers a moment of tenderness and lyrical beauty. The afternoon culminates in Saint-Saëns' magnificent Sonata No. 1 in C minor, a work of sweeping emotion, virtuosity, and dramatic power. Along the way, Tseng will share personal stories and insights into the composers and their music, inviting audiences to discover the human stories behind these extraordinary works. This beautiful compact book is like a seed. A seed carries within itself everything necessary to live and transform into something utterly unrecognizable. Within a seed's compact outer coating lies the entirety of the plant being the seed will become. So it is with "The Serviceberry," contained within the beautiful cover of the book lies everything the dominant culture in our world needs to entirely transform. Together over 3 weeks we will read the book and discuss and explore three key topics: Week 1: Relationship Week 2: Extraction Week 3: Reciprocity The purpose of this community book club is to come together and ask ourselves at this powerful moment in human history: How to we learn to love the natural world? Join us on Friday, October 2, from 4 – 7 p.m. at San Diego Craft Collective, located in the Dorothea Laub Building in the Arts District of Liberty Station in Point Loma! Stop by and explore traditional crafts! Learn to handmake paper flowers, mini altars, and festive crowns in honor of the upcoming holiday. Donations are welcome for participating in these activities.
