About Paul Combs | Paul Combs holds a B.Mus. in composition from the Philadelphia Musical Academy and a M.M. in performance at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. His eclectic career has included performing, composing for theater, film radio and television, and producing and announcing at radio stations in Philadelphia and Boston. From 1986 to 1999 he worked full-time in music education. As a music education activist he was a founding member and two-term Chair of the Society for General Music in Massachusetts (SGMM), and later sat on the Board of the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education (MAJE). “Paul plays heavenly alto.” Valerie Ridenour – Key West, The Newspaper Most recently Mr. Combs taught wind instruments privately and was on the faculty of the Lowell Jazz Day Camp. He also directed the Jazz Ensemble of the Chelmsford Community Band. Dameronia – the Life and Music of Tadd Dameron, his biography of jazz musician Tadd Dameron, has been published by University of Michigan Press. Seating begins at 6 p.m. and the music from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Call (858) 578-8800 for reservations! About Melonie Grinnell | Melonie Grinnell is an active as an educator and performer. She began studying piano at an early age and has since been recognized for her skills as a pianist, and her abilities as a vocalist, music educator, and musical director. Melonie received her Bachelors of Music degree in Music Education with jazz emphasis from the University of Miami and a Masters of Music performance degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University. Additionally, she is on the faculty for the Francis Parker/KSDS 88.3 Summer Jazz Workshop where she teaches jazz piano and co-directs middle school to high school student ensembles. She is also active as an adjudicator for instrumental jazz festivals including the Coronado/COSA Jazz Festival and the KSDS Jazz 88/CMEA festival. About Justin Grinnell | Justin Grinnell is a San Diego-based freelance jazz bassist and music educator. More importantly, he is a husband to pianist/educator Melonie Grinnell and father to their two sons. In addition to performing, Justin maintains an active teaching schedule as adjunct faculty at University of San Diego and Grossmont College, and as faculty for the Francis Parker Annual Summer Jazz Workshop. He has also served as an adjudicator and clinician at local music festivals, such as the Coronado Jazz Festival and the San Diego Bass Fest. Justin received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Jazz Performance from San Diego State University while studying with bassists Gunnar Biggs and Bert Turetzky. Justin also achieved ABD (all but dissertation) status for a doctoral degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Southern California. Besides studying privately with Los Angeles' first-call jazz bassist, Darek Oles, Justin's enrollment at USC gave him the opportunity to study with internationally-recognized jazz artists Peter Erskine, Russ Ferrante, Bob Mintzer, and Alan Pasqua. Two bi-coastal, slightly off-center, musical talents with a long history, are coming together to do their first full show together. Cindy Lee Berryhill has been putting out albums since 1987, most recently "The Adventurist" in 2017. She helped spawn the Anti-Folk movement in New York City, and was featured in the documentary Mariposa: "Under a Stormy Sky" along with Emmylou Harris, "The Violent Femmes", and Daniel Lanois. She has published a novel, "Memoirs of A Female Messiah". “She deserves a berth in any Hall of Fame, for the humanities she brings to the usual vanities of song-writing.” – Van Dyke Parks With twelve solo albums to his credit John Kruth is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/composer who plays mandolin, guitar, banjo, flute, harmonica, and sitar. John currently leads the six-piece New York-based chamber/rock ensemble The Folklorkestra. As a sideman, Kruth has jammed with Laurie Anderson, Violent Femmes, John Prine, King Missile, Hal Willner, Patti Smith, Allen Ginsberg, Elizabeth Swados, Sam Shepard, and Ornette Coleman. John Kruth is also the author of three musical biographies to date including "Bright Moments – The Life and Legacy of Rahsaan Roland Kirk", "To Live’s To Fly – The Ballad of the Late", "Great Townes Van Zandt", and "Rhapsody in Black – The Life & Music of Roy Orbison". His other books include "This Bird Has Flown – The Enduring Beauty of Rubber Soul 50 Years On", "A Friend of the Devil – the Glorification of the Outlaw in Song from Robin Hood to Rap", "Hold on World: The Lasting Impact of John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono", and most recently "Lunacy: The Curious".
