With Spring around the corner, these water-tight vases are wonderful for flower cuttings, dried flowers, herbs, incense sticks, or just left plain. They also make the perfect gift for Valentine’s! In this class, you will be shown how to use thick fiber paper to create the form for the “pocket” of your vase and how to embed the chain hooks within your design. You will be guided as needed in glass cutting techniques and design considerations. Each student will have approximately 8” x 8” of space in the kiln so 1-2 vases can be made. Refresh your wardrobe with personalized creativity! In this workshop, you will design and sew your own quilt blocks and attach them to a pre-loved item of your choosing (we recommend you bring a tote bag or jacket*). You’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind item you’ll be proud to use or wear. Intuitive quilting is the process of creating a quilt (or quilt block) using your intuition and sense of creativity. You’ll select fabric scraps in shapes and colors that you’re drawn to without too much planning. We’ll move through the process without limits, allowing for creativity to flow freely. This course is for beginners and seasoned quilters alike. If you’ve never used a sewing machine before, you’ll be guided on how to sew simple straight lines, gentle curves and how to appliqué. If you’ve sewn apparel or quilts using patterns before, you’ll be encouraged to put away the “rules” and sometimes rigid guidelines of traditional quilting to tap into a more freeform and intuitive way of quilting. Create a unique Bandsaw Box! In this one-day workshop, students will create a bandsaw box with a pivoting lid. Students will leave this workshop with a bandsaw box of their own and the skills to begin creating their own designs. In this class we will cover shop safety and use of the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, drill press, as well as various hand tools. In addition, we will cover the mixed media process of flocking. Students will also learn sanding best practices and how to achieve a perfect finish. We welcome all makers, from beginners to advanced. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring your own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. About Woodworking for Women & Non-Binary The Woodworking for Women class series is designed to empower women & nonbinary individuals in a supportive and educational woodshop environment which is predominantly a male-dominated space. From the artist: To declare one thematic narrative from Lucha, Y La Bamba’s seventh album, would be to chisel away a story within a story within a story into the illusion of something singular. “Lucha is a symbol of how hard it is for me to tackle healing, live life, and be present,” Luz Elena Mendoza Ramos, lead vocalist and producer of Y La Bamba, says of the title behind the album which translates from Spanish to English as ‘fight’ and is also a nickname for Luz, which means light. The album explores multiplicity—love, queerness, Mexican American and Chicanx identity, family, intimacy, yearning, loneliness—and chronicles a period of struggle and growth for Mendoza Ramos as a person and artist.
