The second show of the season is a comedy written by Christopher Durang and directed by Tyler Richards Hewes and Eddy Lukovic Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia are living in their family home in Bucks County, PA, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha. Show contains bits of adult language and situations.

Please join us to hear from our special guest speaker Roger Lin, a senior attorney from the Center for Biological Diversity. This talk will examine the importance of energy justice, which includes equity and environmental justice, as we transition to cleaner energy sources in order to mitigate the climate crisis. Roger will do a presentation on distributed energy resources (DERs) generally and how they are a better way to reach our climate goals vs. bulk transmission buildout (which is inefficient, more expensive, and presents significant impacts to communities and wildlife). He will delve into a study done in March 2023 by him and his associates Howard Crystal and Jean Su entitled, Rooftop Solar Justice: Why Net Metering is Good for People and the Planet and Why Monopoly Utilities Want to Kill It. There will be time allotted for questions from the audience. There is no charge for this online event, but you must register in advance. The series opens on Sunday, September 17, with the violin and piano duo of Regina Carter and Xavier Davis, who last performed on the Athenaeum series in 2005. Hailed as the foremost jazz violinist of her generation, Regina Carter’s quest for beauty combined with her passion for excellence did not escape the attention of the MacArthur Foundation, which awarded her a prestigious “genius grant” fellowship. She is also a recipient of a Doris Duke Artist Award, has been named an NEA Jazz Master, and is a three-time Pulitzer Prize jurist. She tours worldwide with her own group and has appeared with such performers as Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Barron, Ray Brown, Mary J. Blige, Chucho Valdés, Billy Joel, Dolly Parton, and Omara Portuondo. Berry Good Food first became acquainted with Jessica’s amazing program through our, “Seeds for the Future” School Garden Grant. In this past year, we’ve collaborated on a garden-to-table cooking class put on by Chef Carlos and the Herb and Wood team, and have supported their strawberry planting project. We know this is just the beginning of what’s possible for this school garden collaboration. Your support of this dinner will go directly towards garden and cooking initiatives that serve as building blocks for community health and well being.
