  • Hello, my name is Karissa and I moved from Maui 3 years ago after living there for about 5 years. I have many friends now homeless, missing loved ones, animals, and are also feeling the impact of loss of jobs do to the decrease in tourism. I fly out Monday to help my loved ones and before I go I’m asking for the community of San Diego to help. I am leading a breathwork and mantra class at my yoga studio in hopes to receive donations and gift cards. All proceeds go to local HAWAIINS in support, families who lost everything, and to the heroes who are organizing relief.
  • Quint Gallery is thrilled to present an exhibition of recent work by Thomas Glassford, his first at the gallery since 2017. Glassford’s body of work spans an accumulation of everyday commodities and organic material, translated into mixed-media sculpture and constructions, found object assemblage, and painting. Throughout his career, he has immersed himself in a layered network of references that trace disparate fragments of history, contemporary culture, nature, and tradition. Through different entry points, each work in the exhibition in some way relates to containment - as vessels, channels, or capillaries, whether as articles of cultural significance, urban systems, or extensions of the body. Hours: Wednesday - Saturday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Quint Gallery on Instagram

  • Aren Skalman Community Room Artist in Residence July 31 to Aug. 20. 2023 About Aren’s Residency at Art Produce: Transforming an object’s form and function is an exercise in navigating the fluid and reciprocal boundaries between self and other. During this residency I will be revisiting my family’s history of traveling to other countries in order to pursue creative endeavors. By displaying objects and imagery, painting, sculpting, and conversing with the community, I will examine ideas around inspiration, hybridization, appropriation, and evangelism. About the Artist: Aren Skalman is an artist based in San Diego. In 2012 and 2013 he traveled to India as a Fulbright Scholar, where he constructed a rolling, musical sculpture. Aren presented a solo exhibition of sound-generating objects at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library in winter 2016. His work has been included in group exhibitions at Bread and Salt, Space 4 Art, SDSU Downtown Gallery, San Diego Art Institute, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, San Diego City College and Centro Estatal de las Artes, Tijuana & Ensenada. In 2017—along with other Ready Lane participants—he exhibited site-specific objects, altering the space inside a decommissioned Boeing 747 aircraft on the campus of Instituto Tecnológico de Tijuana, in collaboration with the aeronautics department. Aren is currently the Lead Exhibits Designer + Fabricator at the San Diego Natural History Museum.
