Director/Choreographer Anjanette Maraya-Ramey is a first generation Filipina-American, and South Bay native whose father immigrated to the United States in 1973 and joined the US Navy. Similar stories are shared by many South Bay resident Filipinos who fled poverty and dictatorship of their homeland to seek refuge in a foreign country. Bayanihan will serve as an outlet to share the multi-generational stories of the American Dream, assimilation to a new home, and the resilience and selflessness of the Filipino people of South Bay in search of belonging. Bayanihan choreographers include: Sean Asuncion, Xavier Hicks, and Odessa Uno. Hailing from Los Angeles, Filipinx R&B recording artist and Chula Vista native, Roann Mesina will be a featured singer in the show.
