County Board Chair Terra Lawson-Remer’s office has relied on taxpayer money to fund two surveys to gauge support for potential ballot measures.

El Chingon, the “Bad Ass Mexican” hotspot at 560 Fifth Ave., will turn the Gaslamp Quarter green with two days of St. Patrick’s Day festivities, kicking off with a Shamrock and Mimosas brunch on Sunday, March 15 and continuing with spirited drinks on Tuesday, March 17. The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with the Shamrock and Mimosas brunch. A live DJ will perform during brunch, and guests are encouraged to wear green. Jurors Danielle Deery, Independant Curator; Patric Stillman, The Studio Door, Hillcrest; and Chris Padilla, The Athenaeum will select the works from submissions and will also run the in-person session. Art lovers and artists curious about the process of a professional critique are encouraged to attend the session for free as observers. The critique will be followed by a moderated audience Q&A session. Carbon Literacy is "an awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual, community and organizational basis." By completing the training and providing sufficient evidence of your participation, understanding, and action, you will earn a certificate in Carbon Literacy from the Carbon Literacy Project and IGC. Schedule 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2026 Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Overview This action-oriented training is designed for community members who are concerned about the climate crisis and want to take ambitious action to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. If this describes you, please join us! The training uses San Diego-specific case studies and is accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project, the UK-based international accreditation body for Carbon Literacy. Topics include greenhouse gases, their potencies, the carbon cycle, disproportionate causes and consequences of the climate crisis, self-care, and strategizing for individual and collective impact. Price The fee is $295 and includes the Carbon Literacy Project evaluation and certification fee. If your evidence of training engagement, understanding, and action is determined to be insufficient, we will work with you to provide the Carbon Literacy Project additional evidence through a structured answer paper. Please note that reassessment entails an additional processing fee and becoming certified Carbon Literate is not guaranteed. We have made every effort to keep the fee as low as possible while covering administrative expenses. If the fee is a barrier to your participation, we particularly want you to be part of our Carbon Literacy community and encourage you to apply for a full or partial scholarship. Class Description Will 2026 be the year you finally write that novel you’ve been dreaming about? This eight-week online novel writing course will walk you through the process step by step. Each week, the focus will be on some technical aspect of novel writing — from premise to point of view, plot & structure to methods of characterization. In addition to the weekly lesson, there will be curated readings and assignments which you may post for instructor feedback. Additionally, in the last two weeks, you will be allowed to post up to 2000 words of your work-in-progress for critique. This is a flexible course, which you can “do” at your own pace, though ideally you will follow along week by week. There are no live sessions and no Zoom, so if you have to miss a week or two, the lesson will still be there waiting for you when you come back! NOTE: While participants are encouraged to interact (offering feedback to each other’s work and engaging in online discussions about the material), engagement and interaction amongst participants varies from session to session and is not mandatory.
