  • Your kids will really thank you for enrolling them in one of our Zoo Camps this summer! Our half-day Zoo Camps introduce kids to what it’s like to be a Zookeeper. They’ll learn about nutrition needs for animals, make some behavioral enrichment, take part in some husbandry activities, and meet and interact with some of the 100+ animal ambassadors that call Wild Wonders home. Our camps are always great fun and educational. Many kids return year after year. Our camps are on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on June 20 and continuing through August 3.   • From the Hausmann Quartet: May’s Haydn Voyages program journeys through places and times far and wide, from Haydn’s Vienna and London to Milhaud’s Europe, Caroline Shaw’s musical depiction of the grounds of Washington DC’s Dumbarton Oaks and Max Vinetz’s work inspired by a cross-country journey.   • Volunteers of all ages are needed to help with beautifying the San Diego River Park Foundation’s River Center at Grant Park in Mission Valley! When it is completed, this project will create a beautiful community space for residents and visitors to start their exploration of the San Diego River. You can help put your stamp on this project by joining us as we have set a goal of planting 500 plants! We also will be finishing a mural. Lots of volunteers are needed! No experience needed, there will be leaders on hand to help you with the art project and the planting, and both activities are family-friendly.

The publication will feature artwork by Celia Álvarez Muñoz, essays by Dr. Kate Green, MCASD Assistant Isabel Casso, and Josh Franco, and a conversation between Roberto Tejada and Celia Álvarez Muñoz.

  • Pacific Coast Harmony will present “Happy Together,” a concert of modern four-part acapella harmony music on Saturday, June 17 2023, at 3:15 p.m. at the Rancho Santa Fe Community Center, 5967 La Sendita, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067. The music spans the Great American Songbook, Broadway theater and film, popular songs, and beyond. In addition to the chorus, there will be several quartet appearances, featuring “The Summertimers Harmony Band,” 2022 Barbershop Harmony Society Far Western District champs. The concert will follow a reception from 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. with beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.   • This exhibition presents over 100 works of traditional and contemporary African craft, including furniture, pottery, basketry, textiles, jewelry, clothing, weapons, currency, and more. The objects originate from many areas of Africa, and are part of layered cultural stories and histories. Each work invites us not just to consider the object, but also the maker - a person often unknown to us - whose inspiration and sense of design made an everyday object extraordinary. African by Design is drawn from Mingei International Museum’s permanent collection and local private collections.
