The San Diego Arab Film Festival presents the classic Iranian film "The Survivor" directed by Seifollah Dad. The film is set in Haifa and illustrates the experiences of Palestinians under Israeli occupation. It is based on the Ghassan Kanafani novel "Returning to Haifa." Starring Jamal Soliman, Alaa El Din Koksh and Salma Al-Masri, this historical drama tells the story of a Palestinian grandmother who returns to Haifa to find out what happened to her grandson who was separated from his parents when they were forced to leave their home when Israel took control of Haifa. The screening will take place at 7 p.m., October 18, at the Museum of Photographic Arts at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park. A traditional Palestinian dinner (served cafeteria style) will be available for purchase. Options include Musakan (baked chicken with salted onions, olive oil and sumac) and Mujadara (vegetarian dish of lentils and rice with caramelized onions and plain yogurt). It’s my great honor to welcome you to the 44th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival, proudly presented by the Irish Congress of Southern California. Each year, we gather in San Diego to celebrate the rich traditions and joyful spirit of Irish culture — and 2026 will be no exception. We’re excited to share this year’s theme: “Here, There, Irish Culture Everywhere!” This theme celebrates the global presence and timeless joy of Irish culture — from the green hills of Ireland to the sunny streets of Southern California and beyond. Whether you're Irish by blood or simply Irish at heart, you're invited to experience the music, dance, and stories that connect us all. I chose this theme with future generations in mind — especially my son, and all young people who will carry our traditions forward. By showing that Irish culture is thriving here, there, and everywhere, we remind the next generation that they are part of something enduring and beautiful — and that they have a role in keeping it alive. Join us for a vibrant parade filled with floats, dancers, bands, and dignitaries — followed by a family-friendly festival in Balboa Park with Irish food, live music, cultural exhibits, and kids’ activities. Let’s come together to honor our roots, make memories, and share the joy of Irish culture — here, there, and everywhere The parade will kick off at 10:30 a.m. at Fifth and Laurel, progress north to Upas St., then south to Sixth Avenue where the festival is located. The parade is free to attend and will have nearly 100 entries of Irish organizations, honorees, fire and police entries, horses, clowns, marching bands, and more. The family festival opens at 9:30 a.m. and will run all day until 6 pm. There will be two entertainment stages, food, beer and wine, a vendor area, and a kids zone with fun things to do all day. Art All Ways Projects proudly presents "Driven to Transform: Art, Service, and the Spirit of Giving," a curated exhibition and fundraising initiative in collaboration with the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station and the Vista Library. Opening Saturday, December 9, the exhibition honors the strength, resilience, and creative voices of Southern California veterans while celebrating the transformative power of contemporary art. The exhibition runs until Jan. 17. Curated by Hoojung Lee, Director/Curator of Art All Ways Projects, the exhibition brings together artists whose work explores transformation, humanity, identity, and renewal through bold visual expression. Featured artists include Retna, Salomon Huerta, Ana Morales-Huerta, Justin Bower, Carlos Ramirez, Umar Rashid, Simphiwe Ndzube, Nyame Brown, Jay Sylvester, Ann Bedrick, Ryan Campbell, Cristopher Cichocki, Juan Carlos Muñoz Hernandez (a.k.a. Heaven), and Zes, alongside veteran artists Wm Marquez (a.k.a. Wm Schinsky), Reginald Green, and Steven Dilley from the Southern California veteran art community. The opening reception will feature a live painting activation by acclaimed graffiti artist Juan Carlos Muñoz Hernandez (a.k.a. Heaven), as well as a collaborative “Transformation Table” where veteran artists and contemporary artists will work together on a large, evolving canvas created specifically for this exhibition. These interactive elements invite visitors to witness creativity in motion and experience the exhibition’s theme of transformation firsthand. Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, Driven to Transform offers visitors a space to reflect on resilience—both personal and collective—while building meaningful bridges between the arts and the veteran community. A portion of the proceeds from artwork sold during the exhibition will benefit the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, whose mission is to support, empower, and uplift wounded and injured veterans on their path toward recovery and reintegration into civilian life.
