Skate Rising, a program that offers service opportunities and free skate instruction for children, is hosting a holiday jacket drive and learn-to-skate clinic 9-11 a.m. on Dec. 10 at the Encinitas Community Park. The six-year-old program is inviting girls ages 4-18 to bring new or lightly worn outerwear to donate to the Community Resource Center. Local Olympians and pro skateboarders will join the youth program in the service learning opportunity and to teach girls how to skateboard. Exposure Skate on Facebook and Instagram

The San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl is excited to host the second annual Snapdragon Bowl Bash in the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego! The Snapdragon Bowl Bash is a time for fans and locals to gather in the heart of San Diego for FREE family fun, great food, live music, giveaways and more! Witness a one-of-a-kind performance as the two university bands face off in a Battle of the Bands in the streets of downtown San Diego. This event is FREE for all fans and also features, photo booths, interactive games, street performers, food & drink specials from participating restaurants and a photo op with the SDCCU Holiday Bowl Trophy. While the holidays are typically a time to celebrate, especially during this time our foster youth may feel isolated and alone as they have been removed from their homes and may be separated from their friends and family. Our volunteers can advocate for the support they need to thrive during this season and ensure they have a consistent and stable adult presence during this time. With just 10-15 hours a month, you can be a reason a youth has to celebrate! This class is designed to highlight the joy of movement, no prior experience needed to join! Musical Theatre dance focuses on storytelling through movement. In this 1 hour class, students will build strength and awareness through a physical warm-up, center work, and across the floor exercises. We will explore various styles within the Musical Theatre genre, using a wide range of songs from musical theatre classics to pop favorites. This class will explore the creativity of movement by utilizing the principles of improvisational theatre. Class will focus on theatre games, improvisation skills, and ensemble building for students to ultimately create a devised piece. Through the implementation of improv techniques, individuals can build trust and connection. Once this has been established, we will explore how movement can heighten this relationship within a group as well as within each individual. No experience necessary-just come ready to have fun! San Diego New Music presents a unique program curated by Zane Alexander and generously underwritten by Julia S. Falk, Ph.D. at the Athenaeum Art Center. The Holy Ghost is an improvisation directed by Zane Alexander and interpreted by an ensemble of fourteen outstanding musicians from San Diego. The diverse cast of musicians of all ages and musical backgrounds will come together and be given the tools to make something beautiful and unpredictable. Simplicity, trust, and choices are what The Holy Ghost is invested in. Soprano sax soloist Ryan Ebaugh and curator Zane Alexander will guide the band through this multimovement structured improvisation, spotlighting the unique voices of San Diego's instrumentalists.

This workshop is designed to teach students the basics of woodworking and shop safety, and serves as a strong foundation for further exploration in woodworking. In addition to what you make, our goal is for you to leave feeling more comfortable operating machinery and working in a shop environment. Students will make a cutting board, and through that process, learn how to safely use the miter saw, jointer, planer, table saw, drill press, router; as well as how to use clamps, glue up, and apply finish to their pieces. This class is a prerequisite for Wood Open Studio and recommended for further woodworking classes to establish safe practices in our studio. Materials provided. Military discounts available.
