  • Free admission to a full day of music on the pavilion. Train rides will be available for a nominal fee, which goes to support the all-volunteer organization that maintains the Poway-Midland Railroad. The following is our schedule of performers: 10 a.m. - Robin Henkel performs blues with an intensity rarely seen in Southern California. Drawing from the styles of Robert Johnson, Fred McDowell, and Elmore James, Robin has molded his own intense and entertaining personal style. Robin’s performances often include stories and anecdotes regarding the history of the blues and the unique vintage instruments he performs with. He is a four-time recipient of “Best Blues” at the San Diego Music Awards and also a TikTok phenomenon! www.robinhenkel.com 11 a.m. - Enter the Blue Sky is a collection of dedicated musicians in support of passionate storytelling at its best: vocalist and songwriter Sandé Lollis, violist Karen Childress-Evans, and backing vocalist Tina Dee. Playful and lighthearted at times, the majority of their sound is a blend of poetry and original, unique melodies that make room for reminiscing and musing, and encourage the listener to journey with them. Supported by warm inflections and textures, the sincerity of the lyrics and the band’s delivery is nuanced and powerful at the same time. www.enterthebluesky.com 12 Noon - Bill Dempsey is a singer, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist who performs acoustic Americana (bluegrass, folk, country, old time). He is a retired public school music teacher. His father was a hobo during the Great Depression. He has performed at numerous festivals and events on both the east and west coasts. His songs include those performed by the Carter Family, Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Elizabeth Cotten, Flatt & Scruggs, Stanley Brothers, Steve Goodman, Johnnie Cash, Bruce U. Utah Phillips, and others. billdempseymusic.net 1 p.m. - Train Jammers have been culled from the finest traditional musicians on the local scene, organized by mandolin player Mary Jane Cupp and guitarist Paul Belke, especially for this occasion. We look forward to hearing what they pull out of the rich train song repertoire. 2 p.m. - Birds on a Train, an indie-folk band featuring Kristen Maher, Jessica Barlow, and Bonnie Nicholls, explore the complexities of the human experience through original songs and a fresh take on covers. They’re known for tight harmonies, whimsical tastes (everything from alt-rock and Americana to gypsy jazz), and irreverence for everything but the good green earth. And birds. And trains. www.birdsonatrain.com 3 p.m. - Dave Preston and the Grown Ups reflect the familiar folk, country, and Americana that we all know and love, but also folded into the mix is a blend of original songs that touch on the soul of America with its authenticity and earnest delivery by Dave, supported by his band, the Grown Ups. He is a mere child without them, he knows this, but he does his best to go to bed early, eat all his vegetables, and put on a good show.
  • From the organizer: Patio Playhouse Community Theater proudly presents "Murder Ballad," with book and lyrics by Julia Jordan and music and lyrics by Juliana Nash Patio Playhouse Community Theater is proud to present this steamy musical about a love triangle gone awry with book and lyrics by Julia Jordan and music and lyrics by Juliana Nash, now running at Patio Playhouse’s Kalmia location through November 6. The story centers around Sara, a young woman whose relationship with wild bartender Tom is supplanted for a more reasonable and stable future with NYU scholar Michael. When Sara’s itch for passion returns, she finds herself enticed by a dangerous proposition and secretly diving into a sexy affair with Tom yet again, unbeknownst to her husband and daughter. How can it possibly last? There’s something chillingly perfect about presenting a murder ballad this time of year, and the skilled cast members capitalize on the danger of October, weaving the story together in a way that has audiences on the edge of their seats. The cast of four (Josalyn Johnson as the Narrator, Sarah LeClair as Sara, Jason Schlarmann as Tom, Robert Alegria as Michael, and Kylie Buckland as Sara/Narrator U/S) are accompanied by a live band led by Music Director Jerrica Ignacio that will have audiences rocking. And, now entering its second weekend, Murder Ballad has received positive acclaim from audiences, who rave in particular about the talent of the performers and the suspense inherent to a show that mashes together musical and murder. As the season of giving rapidly approaches, Patio is thankful for any patrons who choose to support the theatre by joining as a member at any level or donating at any amount. Members are an essential part of providing affordable shows that delight, entertain, and educate the community. As a member, you will be part of something special - Patio Playhouse has been providing quality shows and entertainment to our community since 1967. • You can help make our roadways safe from impaired drivers until there are #NoMoreVictims. Saturday, October 22 at 7 a.m. San Diego City College 1313 Park Boulevard, San Diego Parking available south of Russ Boulevard at 16th Street Register to join Ken Collier's Crew and His Public Safety Family here: https://www.walklikemadd.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=19251 The 5K walk/run honors the memory of Deputy Ken Collier and continues the work he started in 2010 to save lives. Our goal is to raise awareness on the impact impaired driving can have on families after a loved one is killed by a drunk or drugged driver. Why We Walk Twelve years ago, Deputy Ken Collier was killed while trying to stop a driver who was drunk and high on drugs going the wrong way on SR-52 in Santee. His life was cut short robbing his family of a son, brother and fiancé. We also lost a treasured colleague. Impaired driving impacts two out of three people in their lifetime. Every hour, someone is killed in a DUI crash. There are real people behind these numbers. Together, we can stop drunk and drugged driving, as well as prevent underage drinking by simply walking. All of the funds raised from the walk will help to educate youths and parents about the consequences of underage drinking and driving. Some of the money will be used to help victims or close loopholes in many existing laws.
