Tim Pyles is a longtime San Diego resident, who grew up in La Jolla with over 25 years of experience via radio and television broadcasting. Currently hosting radio shows on KXFM, Indie X FM and KNSJ, he’s previously been part of the on-air talent at legendary alternative radio station 91X, as well as FM94/9. His current radio stints specialize in local music from the Southern California/Tijuana area, with an additional program that focuses on new music releases from around the world. Meanwhile, Pyles has also spent many years interviewing bands and hosting events for numerous media outlets, including "SoundDiego," a locally produced television show that aired on NBC. A tireless champion of San Diego’s music, Pyles has also spent many years booking local bands, including shows for the iconic music venues, the Casbah in San Diego, and the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, with new concerts regularly announced. Pyles recently added podcast host to his resume. He now hosts two podcasts; "SoundCheck Flix," in which musicians talk about their favorite movie, and the other is "Bar Talk," where actors, musicians and other creatives are interviewed in a bar setting. Artist Mary Jhun has been painting her "girls" for decades: surrealist silhouettes with intricate, dreamlike details. She's also struggled with sleep apnea her entire life, and when she introduced a CPAP machine to sleep better, she lost her dreams — and with them, her surreal, creative muse.

The Coronado Library is thrilled to announce that children's author Mac Barnett ("Triangle." "Sam and Dave Dig a Hole," "Mac Undercover"), will appear in person on Tuesday, May 20! Starting at 3:30 p.m., Mac will be at the library to meet fans and sign books. At 4 p.m., he will share picture book favorites and showcase the deeply impactful ways picture books blend words and illustrations, and even the turning of a page, to create a uniquely powerful reading experience. Mac will share his passion for picture books and invite children and adults alike to join him in celebrating what’s vibrant, joyful and inspiring about this quintessential – and highly participatory – American art form at this all ages and family friendly event. We were selected with the with the Coronado Unified School District as one of five libraries in the country that Mac would appear at in his role. As the only library West of the Rio Grande, we are thrilled to host Mac's only public appearance in Coronado for this tour. Each year, Barnett will visit only five locations as National Ambassador. Coronado selected out of 350 applicants for this honor and is his only site visit this school year and the very first one of his tour! Tuesdays, July 22, 29, August 5, 12, 26 From 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Select a date from the drop-down menu. In this 5-week series, students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create functional pieces with an emphasis on decorative techniques. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques with underglazes, slips, glaze, and various experimental materials. Students will complete multiple projects throughout the course with an artistic and creative approach to decorative designs. Inspired by printmaking, painting and drawing, we will explore image transfers, mark making, layering, stencils, and more! Through the use of technique and materials, students will explore the fusion of 2D art and 3D form. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors through the course. The instructor will have a wide array of custom decorative materials for use and sale. All materials provided. Additional materials available via the instructor for a fee.
