  • The proposal would allow family members, first responders and others to refer people with debilitating psychosis to be evaluated, treated and housed before they end up in the criminal justice system. Plus, more than 2 million American children and teenagers live with a wounded or ill veteran. Many help with the veteran's care and face challenges like stress, anxiety, and social isolation. And, in this weekend arts preview, we have some contemporary ballet set to Bluegrass, visual art from the border to the desert, and a chamber concert dedicated to Ukraine.
  • BFree presents Time for Women Artists (TWA)’s newest group show, “Turning Tides” this summer. The group will showcase their individual visions of what the theme means to them: ebb and flow, change, transition, the sea—and more. The works are in a range of sizes and media. The exhibition will present works by all 12 TWA group members, showcasing their individual visions of what “Turning Tides” means to them. As we head into a changed world, post-pandemic and with social and political shifts, these are expressions of hope during transition, of ways to move forward, of the force of the spirit and the resilience of nature. The works are in a range of media: from textiles to painting, ceramic and bronze sculpture to mixed media, and in many styles, from abstract to whimsical to realism. The group has been working and showing together for 6 years, and were recently featured at the Oceanside Museum of Art in an exhibition titled “Now.” Member artists also show individually, in galleries and museums on both coasts, and their work is held in corporate and private collections worldwide. WHEN | This exhibition is ongoing from August 19 to September 3, 2022. • Open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. LOCATION | BFree Studios • 7857 Girard Ave, La Jolla, CA 92037 SOCIALS | Follow BFree Studios on Facebook | Instagram

Through witty banter and wisecracks, these women forge friendships as strong as steel which they are forced to lean on when hard times are on the horizon. This 35th anniversary production honors the singular strength of the Southern woman as it celebrates the essential bonds of the families that we’re born into and those that we choose.
