Oliva M. Espin, Professor Emerita in the Department of Women's Studies at San Diego State University, will discuss the contributions of four women to the philosophy of the 20th century: Simone de Beauvoir, Edith Stein, Simone Weil, and Hannah Arendt. Professor Espin selected these unique individuals because of the significance of their work. Although it is recognizably philosophical, these women suffered from ostracism, and their importance has been neglected, ignored, or forgotten. Water for People San Diego Committee along with Avista and KSDS Jazz 88.3 are proud to present Jazz on Tap 2025, a charity Jazz concert to support Water For People, a global nonprofit promoting the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services. The jazz festival will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Quartyard. Doors open at 1:15 p.m., with live music starting at 2 p.m. grooving away until 8 p.m. There will be food, drinks and live high-energy jazz music, highlighting local artists in a fun outdoor setting. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $45 each. The San Diego chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers presents the ASID Kitchen and Bath Tour 2025. The self-guided tour will feature eight beautifully designed homes in San Diego with newly remodeled kitchens and baths. The tour will showcase an array of styles, tastes, lifestyles, and personal preferences and demonstrate the effectiveness of professional interior design in meeting specific objectives. Projects feature the latest trends in flooring, surfaces, appliances, cabinetry, color, lighting, sustainability, furniture, technology and universal design. The homes on tour, which range from sleek modern to mid-century to traditional, reflect their owners' personalities, budgets, and lifestyles. Advance tickets are $40 per person, and group discounts are available. Day-of-event tickets are $50.
