Beyond Land Acknowledgments Workshop Tuesday, Nov. 19 | 1-3 p.m. | Intertribal Resource Center (SSC 187) Beyond Land Acknowledgements, led by ITRC Coordinator Michaela Allen Sanchez (Lipan Apache and Mexican-American), is an engaging and introspective workshop aimed at moving beyond traditional land acknowledgments towards fostering genuine support and allyship for Native students and communities at UC San Diego and beyond. In this session, participants will delve into critical discussions about their positionalities and explore departmental protocols to identify opportunities for growth and advocacy. Through interactive activities and guided reflections, participants will develop a deeper understanding of creating tangible forms of support. By the end of the workshop, attendees will walk away equipped with actionable items to enact positive change for the betterment of Native communities within their spheres of influence. The Intertribal Resource Center is located on the 1st floor of the Student Services Center in SSC Room #187. We are located at the corner of Rupertus Way and Myers Drive, south of Price Center East. Every November, UC San Diego recognizes and celebrates the achievements, cultures, and contributions of Native American people and tribes during Native American Heritage Month. The UC San Diego community greatly respects the land and the Kumeyaay people of the area where our campus is located. San Diego Foundation ArtWalk is back at Liberty Station for its 20th year, bringing a weekend-long celebration of arts and culture to San Diego’s Liberty Station. The festival celebrates creativity from both sides of the border, with more than 175 artists coming from across several states and Mexico to show and sell their artwork, including paintings, photography, glass and ceramics, jewelry, and sculpture. For families, there will also be a KidsWalk with a variety of hands-on art activities and experiences. The ARTS DISTRICT at Liberty Station has earned its place as San Diego’s premier venue for arts, museums, dining, and entertainment. The fabulous outdoor setting features a verdant lawn and an abundance of free parking. The venue will have a perimeter fence, even though admission is free. The fence allows attendees to enjoy beer and wine (for those 21 years and over), while strolling around the event, rather than having to remain in a beer garden. Guests are asked to show their ID to receive a wristband to be able to purchase alcoholic beverages. The 32nd annual San Diego Latino Film Festival kicks off Wednesday and runs through Sunday. This year's festival highlights films from over 20 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. On Midday Edition Wednesday, we hear about some of the films featured, as well as other events highlighting Latinx music and culture at this year's festival.
