Students will explore the Art of Careers by learning about real artists and creating their own artwork inspired by their styles and materials. Participants will paint an acrylic sunflower inspired by Vincent van Gogh, create an ocean scene using recycled materials inspired by environmental artist Angela Haseltine Pozzi, and design yarn crafts such as bracelets or pompom animals inspired by fiber artist London Kaye. At the same time, we'll discuss how artists turn creativity into real careers. Everyone will have the opportunity to share and present their artwork in a mini gallery walk at the end of the program. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will host its third EXPO Design Market in partnership with Mortis Studio and Kiku Room, on June 6 and 7. Taking place on Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday, June 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., EXPO is a two-day event series built to showcase the best of publishing, design, music, and community within San Diego and its neighboring communities across Southern California at a moment when access to arts funding and cultural spaces is increasingly uncertain. At its core, EXPO is an exchange of ideas, networking, and collaboration meant to encourage meaningful connection, and is guided by MCASD’s mission to inspire expansive thinking and an inclusive world through contemporary art. The weekend will be filled with goods for sale by local vendors, curated DJ sets, and thought-provoking artist talks. At a time when public investment in arts and culture faces mounting pressure, EXPO underscores the vital role of independent artists, designers, and cultural workers in shaping an inclusive and resilient creative ecosystem. Everyone has a story to tell—what’s yours? The Storytellers of San Diego invite you to explore the art of sharing stories from your own life, your grandparents, your friends, or your imagination! Each workshop focuses on a different element of storytelling, helping you bring real experiences to life and connect with others through the power of story. Participants will have the chance to showcase their new skills at the San Diego Storytelling Festival on March 21, 2026. Registration is requested for the February 3 introductory session. February 17: “Crafting Worlds with Words" with Mindy Donner Learn how to “show, not tell” and transport your listeners into the vivid and unforgettable world of your story through rich imagery and sensory detail. Mindy Donner folds her background in movement and puppetry arts into her storytelling repertoire, exploring myths, folktales and personal tales. She taught Learning Through the Arts at Cal State San Marcos for nine years, and produced original puppet plays for children and adults. The California Center for the Arts, Escondido, in collaboration with Persian Place, presents Nowruz – Persian New Year, marking the arrival of spring and the beginning of the new year in Persian culture. Observed for more than 3,000 years across diverse regions and communities, Nowruz remains a time of renewal, reflection, and connection. This gathering reflects a shared commitment to honoring cultural traditions that continue to hold deep meaning for our local community. While many Persian organizations across the United States have paused public programs in response to the current situation in Iran, the Center and Persian Place believe it is important to sustain spaces where heritage, artistic expression, and community can be experienced together. The afternoon will feature live performances, a Women’s Artisan Market, arts and crafts, a kids exhibition, food, music, and free admission to the public opening of the new exhibition, "Maryam Bayat: Unrolling Paradise." Edgy Eco-decadent designers from across the state will gather in Escondido to preview their socially relevant arte-couture and prêt-a-porter designs.
