  • Note: Though this class is offered as part of the Certificate in Memoir Writing, there is no pre-requisite to join this class. All students, members, and nonmembers are encouraged to enroll. In this workshop, students will expand upon what they have learned in Memoir I and II about the basics of memoir writing and character, dialogue, and scene. The focus on this workshop will be on creating a strong character arc and creating a bullet proof structure that will fulfill the potential of the hook. Utilizing either the 6 Journey Writing Plot Spots or the 15 Plot Spots as our structural guides, we will delve deeper into creating parameters, honing your core idea (deciding how to pick and choose what parts of your life to include in your memoir) and perfecting tone and theme. Class structure: Except for the first class, the first hour will be lecture and the second hour will be read and critique where participants can workshop their material or class assignments. Tone of class: We strive to create a supportive, nurturing environment where participants feel encouraged to share, risk and connect to their most creative self. Our textbook, "7 Essential Writing Tools," is available for purchase on the first day of class for $10 or on Amazon/Kindle. ADDITIONAL NOTE: Please note that you will receive your Zoom link via email 24 hours before the start of this class. San Diego Writers, Ink on Facebook / Instagram

  • Rafael Payare, conductor San Diego Symphony Orchestra BRAHMS: Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 BRAHMS: Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73 Brahms is not only one of the most famous and cherished composers in all of 19th century music, but an artist of rich and wonderful contradictions. A musical architect of incredible intellectual skill, he wrote music that tugs instinctively at every human heart. Anyone can listen to it and be deeply moved and captivated by it, but each of us will always find that there is more and more to discover in it. Brahms, in a word, is a whole world of feelings and of melody. This San Diego Symphony festival is a rare occasion, bringing together some of his best-loved pieces – his four symphonies, his violin concerto and his ravishingly beautiful German Requiem – so that we can listen to them all in a single breath. Don’t miss this opportunity to take a deep dive into one of the greatest musical imaginations that ever lived! San Diego Symphony on Facebook / Instagram

  • Graham was a creative force in the performing arts. She wanted dance to express authentic, human emotions — a revolutionary idea in the late 1920s.
  • Join us for a morning of artful reflection and handwritten connection. In a fast-moving world of digital messages, take a thoughtful pause to reconnect with the timeless art of letter-writing, guided by creativity and meaningful conversation. We will begin with a stroll through the sculpture garden, taking time to observe, discuss, and respond to selected works and their creators. Together, we will explore questions of artistic intention, personal interpretation, and emotional response while practicing the essential creative act of thinking deeply and expressing ourselves with care. You will then be invited to write a letter to an artist, whether living or past, or to someone with whom you wish to share your reflections. This is a chance to slow down, be present, and engage meaningfully with art through writing. All materials will be provided, including guidance on how to compose, personalize, address, and send your handwritten letter. The San Diego Museum of Art on Facebook / Instagram
