San Diego's favorite art duo Brian & Ryan return with the fourth annual Kitschmas Pageant, unveiling an all-new holiday adventure: "The Kitschmas Tree Lot and the Case of the Missing Nose." Expect an evening of festive music, offbeat storytelling, jolly performances, and Yuletide absurdity as the artists bring their wonderfully weird holiday universe to life. The pageant runs alongside Brian & Ryan's 11th annual Kitschmas exhibition at the Athenaeum Art and Music Center, a maximalist celebration of plastic memories and all things seasonally saccharine. Holiday lovers and Scrooges alike are invited to grab a cup of cheer and join us as we make the season just a little more merry and bright.

Creativity will take center stage at Chula Vista City Hall as ArtFest returns for its fourth year, bringing together artists, musicians, performers and the community for an afternoon dedicated to the vibrant arts and culture of the South Bay. The City of Chula Vista will host the annual Chula Vista ArtFest on Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 6 p.m. at City Hall, 276 Fourth Ave. The community celebration will showcase the work of more than 90 art vendors from painters to ceramicists and other 2D and 3D artists, ArtFest gives local creatives an opportunity to share their work while inviting visitors to experience art in its many forms. Presented by the Department of Visual Arts and the Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts at UC San Diego, "Off-Screen Space" includes experimental narrative films, video art, multi-channel video installations and a cinematic performance - all made by artists who reside or created the work on the west coast and in the region. The works in the show exist across every surface of the gallery and expand the experience and expectations of the screen. “Off-screen space” is a term used primarily in cinema that refers to a sensation that the image, sound, action and ideas can move past the edges of the screen. In this exhibition, the screen is simultaneously the object, the suggestion and the idea. María del Carmen Abascal's case has drawn tens of thousands of people to the streets in recent days and led the Spanish government to present measures to address the country's housing crisis.

Patrick Colm Hogan is the author of "The Death of the Goddess: A Poem in Twelve Cantos" (2014), a book-length, narrative poem based on Hindu Goddess myths, as well as lyric poems and short fiction, published in such outlets as Minnesota review, The Journal of Irish Literature, and the Journal of Commonwealth and Postcolonial Studies. A Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut, he is the author of twenty-seven scholarly and interpretive books, most of which treat postcolonial or world literature. Hogan has regularly taught courses in postcolonial literature (often with a focus on Africa), as well as courses on the pre-colonial and postcolonial literary traditions of India and China. In keeping with these interests, he has worked to acquire at least some knowledge of French, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin, Hindi, Mandarin, and Sanskrit. "A People Without Shame" is his first novel. "A People Without Shame" is an artistic triumph composed by a master craftsman whose courageous eye makes all too vivid the abundant horrors suffered by beautiful people and their culture at the hands of soul-dead colonizers eager to extinguish them.
