An eclectic collective of 19 artists embody the unifying theme “Better Together” in a contemporary fine art exhibition (Thumbprint Gallery) from July 3 - August 1, 2026. Free Opening Reception: Friday, July 3, 4-9 p.m. The month-long “Better Together” art exhibition presented by Thumbprint Gallery is guest curated by San Diego based artist Lourans Mikhail. Mikhail, who was born in Baghdad, Iraq and raised in Chicago, Illinois, hand-picked artists from San Diego, Los Angeles and across the country to animate the exhibition theme. “My vision was for people to feel inspired when they experience the numerous ways in which artists exemplify the value of togetherness,” explained Mikhail. Curator Lourans Mikhail is a painter, sculptor, and graphic designer, who spent 13 years as a US Marine. His own work is inspired by his Assyrian heritage, graffiti, comics, anime, cartoons, and fine art. In his art, Mikhail uses diverse media to explore different perspectives and challenge the narratives of socioeconomics, culture, politics, and race. “Being a curator of this exhibition is another way I get to draw on what I’ve experienced in life as an immigrant, a veteran, as a father…but this way I’m doing so through the most creative people I know.” The “Better Together” exhibition is on display at Thumbprint Gallery from July 3 to August 1 from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. She’s the author of “Heroes Live Here: A Tribute to Camp Pendleton Marines” which started as a passion project to showcase the memorials and markers on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton which turned into a collaborative work of art that honors our fallen Marines of the post-9/11 generation. Amy Forsythe began her career as an enlisted military journalist in the U.S. Marine Corps and is currently serves as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Her career has included five combat deployments and several other overseas assignments. This concert celebrates American music in honor of the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. For generations, the United States has inspired composers from both within and beyond its borders, shaping works that reflect America’s landscapes, cultures, and evolving identity. This program highlights that influence, beginning with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” a work shaped by his impressions of America’s musical traditions. We continue with Edward MacDowell’s Suite No. 2, “Indian Suite,” one of the earliest major orchestral works by an American composer. The evening concludes with a world premiere of an original piece written by MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra’s composer‑in‑residence, Christoph Rayburn—to commemorate this historic anniversary.
