Kenneth Capps received his MFA at the University of California, San Diego in 1975, during which his work was acquired by the Storm King Art Center in upstate New York. His work is now featured in permanent collections internationally, including the the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego and the Port of San Diego, Bayside Park in Chula Vista, CA; the Palm Springs Art Museum; the Oakland Museum Of California; the Museum of Modern Art in New York; and the Alfred Schmela Sculpture Park in Dusseldorf, Germany, among many others. Capps has received several grants and awards, including The Engelhard Award, two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships and two Pollock/Krasner foundation grants. Many of his sculptures are sited on a 40-acre sculpture park built by the artist in Warner Springs, CA. -- Nancy Blum received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and has since become a widely sought-after visiting artist, critic, and lecturer at universities nationwide. Her work has also been recognized through fellowships from the Pollock‐Krasner Foundation, Peter S. Reed Foundation, Mid‐Atlantic Arts Foundation, and New York’s Lower East Side Printshop. The first monograph of her work was published in 2017 and features essays, interviews and documentation of her drawing, sculpture, and public artworks. Nancy lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo & Memorial Festival is held annually in the rural town of Valley Center, CA over the Memorial Day weekend. Our quaint community is nestled in the mountains of North San Diego County and still exemplifies many aspects of America's traditional western and agricultural lifestyles. Since 2002, the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo has provided a family-friendly rodeo as part of the annual week-long western heritage celebration that began in 1950. In 2015, we created the Memorial Festival to pay tribute to our nation’s veterans. The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo & Memorial Festival provides the ultimate venue for our town and surrounding communities to come together and participate in America’s greatest showcase of patriotism and western heritage…rodeo! In 2017, the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) sanctioned the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo, making it the first-ever professional rodeo in Valley Center. The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo committee takes great pride in showcasing local youth through our "Mutton Bustin’" event, Junior Barrel Racing, and a Calf Scramble during intermission that is open to children in attendance free of charge. In support of our stated mission, rodeo proceeds are donated to local youth organizations, as well as organizations that promote the morale of our local military. Escondido Choral Arts presents The Center Chorale, combined with full symphony orchestra, guests Pacific Coast Chorale, and soloists, will perform Ode to Joy, from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in celebration of the Two Hundredth Anniversary of this great work. "This kiss is for the whole world" translated from the Ninth, moves us today as we listen to the interplay between the instruments and the chorus. Also programmed will be works by Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, and Faure, some of your Great Composers throughout history. Conductor John Nettles, Guest Conductor Diego Guerra, and soloists Caroline Nelms, Maria Caughey, and DeAndre Simmons will be performing in the beautiful California Center for the Arts, Escondido's Center Theater.
