  • "The Tiny Exhibition" is a unique, one-day public art event at Liberty Station Arts Districts' First Fridays on June 5, 2026. This event presents a powerful collaboration between contemporary artist Lisa Bryson, Tiny Home Central, Piccola Tiny Homes and the non-profit The Warrior Village Project. Featuring a collection of meticulously crafted oil paintings, many are of a jewel-like size, on display inside a Piccola Tiny Home as art gallery organized by Tiny Home Central. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Warrior Village Projects’ tiny home build program. The exhibition explores themes of scale, luxury, and sustainability, challenging the notion that size dictates value—in both art and living spaces. This event creates a poignant link between the site's legacy of military service and the project's contemporary mission, offering a compelling cultural experience while directly supporting a vital community cause. 10% of all art sales will benefit The Warrior Village Project's mission to house homeless veterans. • Zest up your gift list this holiday season and support Escondido’s small businesses. Shop, eat, and explore downtown Escondido (Grand Avenue) to discover special treats, sales, and discounts, while collecting stamps in the EDBA’s popular Bingo Game. Bingo cards, and a map of participating businesses, can be picked up at Heritage Garden at the corner of North Juniper Street and Grand Avenue between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. where a host of activities will take place. The Holiday Trolley is also back this year (noon to 5 p.m.) to get shoppers around! A Tree Lighting will take place at the end of the day (approximately 5:15 p.m.) in Maple Street Plaza. This season’s Shop Small campaign will run from Small Business Saturday through the end of the year; its theme celebrates Escondido’s rich agricultural roots and citrus heritage, so add a little zest to your holidays — shop, dine, and celebrate local. • A family of furry, snorkel-nosed aliens arrive on Earth looking for a new home, only to find a foggy wilderness filled with sociopathic poachers, a rock band on vacation, and a very special boy looking for a new best friend instead! A ‘kids movie’ (and we’re using that term lightly) from the notorious director of "PIECES: and "SLUGS" that later became legendary due to its inclusion on a 1991 episode of Mystery Science Feature 3000, Juan Piquer Simón’s EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL VISITORS is a bizarre mishmash of violence and pathos that is perhaps the most singularly screwy "E.T."-influenced films ever made. • In this class I’ll share tips of the trade mastered over my 25 years as a travel journalist. You’ll learn how to sell vacation stories to publications and online. My class teaches how to access editors, decipher editorial guidelines, compose a query, negotiate contracts, qualify for press trips, find unique story angles, delve into social media, become a published author, and much more. I’ve worked in print, radio, television and online. Coverage includes Huffington Post, USA Today, Travel + Leisure magazine, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, and the Travel Channel. I’ve authored two travel books. First, a pet-friendly travel guide – "The Privileged Pooch, Luxury Travel With Your Pet in Southern California." The second book – "On A Mission" – profiled my 800-mile walk to visit California’s 21 missions. Yup, walk! I segued my travel writing skills into an online business . This includes a website/blog, the Global Personal Shopper online shop, thousands of social media followers, consulting and teaching. Throughout my career I’ve taught travel writing at Grossmont College and San Diego Writers, Ink. I thoroughly enjoy teaching students how to break into the travel writing industry. • New KPBS reporting finds that Black San Diegans are nine times more likely to be charged with 'resisting an officer' — and nothing else. Plus, a license plate reader linked the wrong man to a violent crime. And, a panel with LGBTQ+ journalists.
  • Based on a true story, the performer everyone wanted to see “live” in 1940s New York was Florence Foster Jenkins, an enthusiastic soprano whose pitch was far from perfect. Known as “the first lady of the sliding scale,” she warbled and screeched her way through the evening to an audience who mostly fell about with laughter. But this delusional and joyously happy woman paid little attention to her critics. Instead, she was surrounded by a circle of devoted friends who were almost as eccentric as she was. This hilarious comedy is appropriate for all ages and, although is not classified as a musical, it contains both music and dance. Visit: https://www.powpac.org/?utm_source=Vesta&utm_medium=Referral
  • SNAP, also known as food stamps, has seen a rapid and consistent participation decline since last July. The drop comes as the program faces historic cuts and changes.
  • Vancouver guitarist Paul Pigat is one of those rare players who can burn through rockabilly, jazz, roots, and everything in between without breaking a sweat. Blessed with a jazz man's sheen, a rockabilly heart, and restless musical curiosity, Pigat has quietly built a list of credits that would be the envy of anyone in the business — sharing stages and lending his distinctive guitar work to artists like Jeff Beck, Jakob Dylan, Brian Setzer, Albert Lee, James Burton, Neko Case, and the Reverend Horton Heat. Much like Steve Cropper standing behind Otis Redding at Stax, Pigat has spent years creating sweet sounds for some of the best artists around without always getting the attention you'd expect. But anyone who's caught him live knows the secret is out — Pigat is a combustible, genre-defying force on the fretboard and one of the most versatile guitarists working today.
