  • “The Role of Compassion in Social Change,” this year’s luncheon hosted by the Center for Jewish Care, features Rabbi Dr. Shmuly Yanklowitz in conversation with Michael Hopkins, CEO of Jewish Family Service, about how acts of compassion can bridge divides, heal communities and drive systemic change. The afternoon focuses on how the core Jewish value of compassion can serve as a catalyst for social transformation. In this thought-provoking discussion, Rabbi Shmuly, a global social justice activist, published author, educator and speaker will reference contemporary case studies and his own experiences. This discussion focuses on how San Diegans as individuals and a community can practice compassion – through empathy, integrity and kindness – in today’s increasingly complicated world. The luncheon, a part of the Center for Jewish Care’s ongoing work to help San Diegans access critical services for their immediate needs, is a fundraiser for Jewish Family Service of San Diego.
