  • On Friday, October 25, Songwriter Sanctuary will take on a new rhythm with a special MC Edition featuring The Neighborhood Kids, The Brothers Burns, and Rob Deez. Typically known for its intimate acoustic sets and behind-the-song storytelling, the original music series is shifting gears to spotlight songwriters whose craft is rooted in hip hop, where rhythm, flow, and rhyme take center stage. Hosted by the iconic Jeff Berkley in collaboration with Normal Heights United, this event will bring a fresh spin to the Songwriter Sanctuary experience. The Neighborhood Kids are a conscious hip-hop collective on a mission to spark unity and drive social change. This group blends innovative rhythms with powerful messages. Their music dives deep into revolutionary topics and social activism, aiming to inspire and unite listeners through thought-provoking lyrics and a dynamic sound. With each track, The Neighborhood Kids challenge the status quo to create a more inclusive and conscious world. The Brothers Burns influences run the gamut of old school hip hop, funk, Motown, and R&B to classic rock, classical, electronic, and more. Drawing inspiration from everyday life experiences, prior/current events, social/economic happenings, and the abstract, the 2x San Diego Music Award winning trio provides an artistic and rhythmic commentary complete with lyricism, beatboxing, and live turntablism. Rob Deez is a San Diego-based acoustic hip hop comedian known for his witty humor, storytelling songs, and commanding stage presence. Mixing comedy with music, Deez creates relatable tracks about everything from ramen noodles to bike-riding, delivering laughter wherever he goes. Inspired by the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Sublime, and early episodes of Saturday Night Live, he has carved out a distinct “singer-songrhymer” niche that keeps audiences laughing and connecting with every word.
