UC San Diego admitted a record 40,616 first-year and 12,330 transfer undergraduate students for the fall 2021 quarter out of more than 140,000 applications — the second-most in the nation, it was announced Monday.

A man was shot and killed early Monday morning in downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, and two people were taken into custody following a separate non-injury shooting that occurred minutes earlier a few blocks away, police said.

Padres manager Jayce Tingler made his first public comments Sunday, regarding the shooting outside the Washington D.C. stadium that wounded three people and prompted the suspension of the game between San Diego and the Washington Nationals.

The median price of a single-family home in San Diego County edged up 1.6% last month, while sales of existing homes rose significantly, the California Association of Realtors said Friday.

The unemployment rate in San Diego County increased to 7% in June, up from a revised 6.3% in May but still well below the year-ago estimate of 13.5% — according to figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department.

The policy requires vaccinations "for all individuals learning, working and living at UC locations this fall, and participating in person in UC programs that may occur off-site, such as UC athletics programs or study abroad, with limited exceptions, accommodations and deferrals."

There were no reports of any damage or public threats related to the quake.

The plan calls for a permanent center that migrants and asylum seekers can use while they finalize travel arrangements to other parts of the country.

There have been 16 earthquakes reported near El Centro and Imperial since midnight.
