Patches of high clouds were drifting from northwest to southeast across Southern California Sunday, but otherwise skies were clear.

San Diego County health officials have reported 2,490 new COVID-19 infections and 14 new deaths, marking 104,958 total cases and 1,151 deaths.

A deep marine layer will bring periods of clouds and cool weather to San Diego County Saturday with gusty westerly winds over the mountains and deserts, the National Weather Service said.

San Diego County health officials reported 2,867 new COVID-19 infections Friday, a new record, eclipsing the previous one of 2,287 last Friday by nearly 800 cases, marking more than 100,000 total cases in the county since the pandemic began.

The announcement comes after a judge struck down San Diego's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, saying only the state can make that a requirement.

Earlier this month, supervisors unanimously voted to oppose any further placements of sexually violent predators until local jurisdictions are able to fully participate in the placement process, including having full veto authority.
