Civil Rights Group Files Lawsuit Against Escondido

A consortium of human rights organizations and attorneys has banded together to fight Escondido’s recent housing ordinance, which penalizes landlords who rent to illegal immigrants. Reporter Rebecca

A coalition of civil rights groups is trying to stop an ordinance that punishes landlords who rent to illegal immigrants. They say even though the law isn’t official until November 18th, Latinos are already facing discrimination and harassment. Civil rights groups including the ACLU and People for the American Way are asking a judge to prevent the controversial law from going into effect.

They’ve also filed a lawsuit over the renter’s ban, saying it’s illegal and unconstitutional. Full Focus reporter Rebecca Tolin talks with one of the lead attorneys filing Garrett v. Escondido.
