Anthem Blue Cross says more than 200,000 applicants for insurance may have had their personal information compromised. The company says a security breach of its website led to unauthorized access.

Anthem says attorneys that want to file a class-action suit against the company may have viewed the personal information.

The insurer says it’s already made the necessary security changes.

Anthem is offering one year of free identity protection service to anyone who could have been affected.

Murray Jennex teaches information security at San Diego State. He says the company sounds like it's stepping up.

"So the fact that they were monitoring, they fixed it quick, they responded, shows that they're doing everything they're supposed to, and everything they can," Jennex says. "Now, whether or not we're happy with that, that's a little different story."

Jennex says a perfect security system of online information just doesn't exist.
