Heat Wave Hits San Diego

Triple-digit heat is expected in inland San Diego County today, part of a heat wave likely to produce even warmer days later this week, forecasters said.

High pressure expanding over the region is producing daytime temperatures that are approximately 8 to 15 degrees above normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency forecast that the hottest days will be Wednesday through Friday, and possibly Saturday.

Highs today are expected to range from the mid-70s to mid-80s in coastal and western valley areas, and mid-90s to low 100s near the foothills and mountains. In the deserts, highs of 109 to 114 are expected today.

"A break in the heat is expected early next week as the upper high weakens and a low pressure trough develops along the coast,'' according to an NWS advisory.
