A festive cultural event featuring JJ Anderson, Special Guest and Local Filmmaker of "Sacred Soil: The Piney Woods School." The film tells an inspiring story about the history of Black educational institutions in America and how the last Black standing boarding school, Piney Woods School, is more than just an institution. The event will open with "The Main Line," a live performance of the life story of Gospel Singer Mahalia Jackson, written and directed by Jennie Hamilton-local Oak Park Producer and Director of plays and owner of the C.A.T. Theater. Dr. Patricia Williams, Author of "Out in Dem Streets: The Homelessness Pandemic Documentary and Personal Account," will share her personal experience as a homeless person for a period of ten years. The event will bring a finale with a Drummers and Dancers performance.

Oak Park Library
Prior to the building's construction, the location of the Oak Park Library was a popular bookmobile stop in the 1950s. In order to meet a growing demand from library patrons in the community, the City purchased the land and built the current 5,200-square-foot building at a cost of $152,364. The library was dedicated in 1969. A few years later, the Oak Park Community Council was formed to advocate for the library and other community services. Thanks to a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Oak Park Library was able to purchase additional public computers and expand its technology services for the community.
