San Diegans pinched by rising cost of living

A study shows the rising cost of living in San Diego is making it harder for working families to keep up.

A study shows the rising cost of living in San Diego is making it harder for working families to keep up. The Center on Policy Initiatives, a think tank that advocates for working families, says a family of four with school age children, would have to earn $19 an hour to meet basic needs in San Diego. Natalie Nava of CPI says that's three times the minimum wage.

Nava: "Someone who's working full time can still struggle to provide basic necessities like food shelter and clothing for their families and it shows that the jobs in San Diego that are available to people need to keep up with the rapidly rising cost of living."

The study concludes a single person with no children would need to earn over $12 an hour to pay for basic needs including food, rent, health care and transportation.
