The race to capture Duke Cunningham's soon-to-be-vacant congressional seat has just gotten more crowded. Former San Diego Representative Brian Bilbray has joined the contest. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.

Republican Brian Bilbray represented San Diego's 49th congressional district for three terms before he lost to Democrat Susan Davis in 2000.

Now with Cunningham's seat opening up in the 50th district, Bilbray says he's ready for another stint.

Some other prominent Republicans are vying for the spot, too. But Bilbray says he's the only candidate who's actually been in Congress.

Bilbray: "The question I would really give to the other guys who say they want to come to Congress is, how do think as a junior member, you can get more done for this district than Brian Bilbray, an experienced person with six years of seniority in Washington?"

So far, the only Democratic candidate in the race is Cardiff School Board member Francine Busby.
