A measure has been introduced in the state assembly that would further restrict smoking in California. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
California already has the most stringent anti-smoking laws in the country. But even though smoking is banned in bars, restaurants, and most workplaces, there are exceptions.
Oropeza: Lobbies, lounges, waiting areas, stairwells and restrooms, currently those are not included, amazingly.
Oropeza's bill would prohibit smoking in those places, and would extend the ban to all common areas in public and private parking lots, as well.
Oropeza concedes smokers don't have many areas where they can light up in public. But she argues smokers need to indulge the habit in their own space, and not subject others to their addiction. Kenny Goldberg, KPBS News.
