Camp Pendleton will open the first West Coast barracks for Marines and sailors wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Military officials say the Wounded Warrior Center could accommodate 26 service members. The center is scheduled to open Thursday, and officials say they expect half of its rooms to be filled by next week.

The Marines say the goal is to help the wounded return to active-duty or assist them in transitioning to civilian life.
