Hearing on San Diego Condo-Hotel Project Set for Thursday

The California State Lands Commission is considering whether a San Diego condominium-hotel project can be built on Harbor Island. The project would be built on land set aside for public access. KPBS reporter Ed Joyce has more.
Condo-hotels have been trendy in recent years. The developments are split between high-priced hotel rooms and privately owned condominiums. The proposed Woodfin Suites Hotel project is an eight-story, 140-suite hotel that would be built on Harbor Island near Lindberg Field. The plan includes using 40 suites as timeshare condos. San Diego Coastkeeper spokesman Bruce Reznik says the project will limit public access to the area.
Reknik :"It's the first effort I believe in the state that's looking to build one of these condo-tels as they're called, on public tidelands, on lands which are really held in trust for the public."

The state lands commission has the final say on whether the project would move forward because it manages public tidelands. Ed Joyce, KPBS News.
