A construction executive who escaped from kidnappers in Tijuana on Monday is seeking refuge in San Diego. The border news agency reports that the man quotes the man as saying after what he's been through he doesn't want to stay in Tijuana. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has the story.
The 43-year-old man says his captors failed to fasten his handcuffs correctly.
He says while his kidnappers slept he escaped through a window wearing nothing but his underwear.
He'd been held captive for ten days. Tijuana police came to his rescue and took him to the station.
The border news agency reports the man's captors used the police radio frequency and threatened to come after their victim again if he were not returned.
The kidnappers reportedly had demanded a $1 million ransom. The victim asked to be taken to San Diego for safety.
A spokesman for Tijuana's Municipal Police would not comment on the victim's identity, nationality or whereabouts.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection say they haven't heard anything about the case.
Authorities say the number of kidnappings in Tijuana has decreased this year compared to last, when a rash of kidnappings sent hundreds fleeing to San Diego for safety.
