Judge Orders 42 Catholic Diocese Sex Abuse Cases to Trial
Tom Fudge: Late last week, a federal bankruptcy judge ordered 42 sexual abuse lawsuits against the San Diego Catholic Diocese to go to trial. A total of 127 lawsuits had been put on hold, as the diocese sought bankruptcy protection. But Judge Louise DeCarl Adler said settlement of the case or resolution in bankruptcy court is unlikely to happen soon. The judge has been very critical of the way the church has handled its bankruptcy case. Meanwhile, settlement talks between the plaintiffs and the diocese are continuing.
