Thousands of drug researchers from around the world are in San Diego this week, for the annual meeting of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists . KPBS reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
Organizers say the primary goal of the AAPS meeting is for pharmaceutical researchers to share ideas and discuss new discoveries. Stacy May is the group's director of public outreach. She says there will be an update on the male birth control pill. Other highlights include discussions about new drugs derived from blackberries.
Stacy May: ...Including a chewing gum to prevent gingivitis and periodontal disease, a topical cream for U.V.-induced skin damage, and a pill for various inflammatory diseases of the G.I. tract.
May says government regulation of drugs continues to be a hot topic in the industry. Tomorrow, the director of China's Food and Drug Administration will speak at the conference. Kenny Goldberg , KPBS News.
