Some parents aren't too confident the San Diego school board will pick the right person to replace Superintendent Carl Cohn. Cohn officially steps down from his position today. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
Cohn is one of the most respected urban educators in the country. The veteran leader says he decided to leave San Diego Unified because he simply doesn't have the enthusiasm to lead the district.
Some parents believe San Diego's school board members zapped that energy by interfering with Cohn's ability to lead.
Diane Haney represents parents with kids at low-performing schools. She worries the trustees will now chose someone who will serve their interests and not the students interests.
Haney: There's no telling what we are going to get at this point...when we can not work with the best of the best, what are we going to be reduced to?
School board members have appointed an interim superintendent because they missed a self imposed deadline to have a leader in place by the first of the year. The superintendent search is top secret however published reports indicate a North Carolina superintendent is one of the finalists.
