A new Field Poll finds likely California voters evenly divided about Proposition 93, which would reduce term limits for state lawmakers. The poll also finds most voters support more slot machines for tribal casinos. KPBS reporter Andrew Phelps has details.
Proposition 93 would reduce term limits from 14 years to 12. But a technicality would let some termed-out legislators run for re-election this year.
Mark DiCamillo conducted the poll. He says voter awareness of the initiative has skyrocketed since last month, and he says the more voters learn about it, the less they like it.
DiCamillo: Awareness was very low. Voters really didn't know much about it, the implications of it. They were just reacting to the summary, which is pretty much what they see on the ballot.
Thirty-nine percent of respondents now support the measure. Thirty-nine percent oppose.
DiCamillo says voters are also more aware of Propositions 94 through 97, which would allow tribal casinos more slot machines. Support for those measures kept steady, at 42 percent.
