The number of arrests made in connection with a drug sting at San Diego State University is now under some scrutiny. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has the story.
SDSU officials say of the 76 students arrested this week, only 33 were arrested as a direct result of Operation Sudden Fall. The other arrests came as a result of traffic stops and other normal police activities.
But the District Attorney's Office is standing by the overall arrest figure.
Spokesman Steve Walker says a zero-tolerance policy on drugs went into effect and there was a stepped-up police presence on campus as a result of the undercover operation. He says the 40-plus arrests led police to the on-campus drug trafficking rings.
The discrepancy in arrest numbers is prompting the District Attorney's Office to defend the operation. They hope a breakdown of the arrests will help people understand how they're related to the sting.
