The sands of Del Mar are no longer allowing booze.
The City Council on Monday night unanimously approved an emergency ordinance that bans alcohol at city parks and beaches starting Friday and continuing through Labor Day.
Public Services Director Pat Vergne says there's been an alarming increase in public drunkenness in recent weeks, apparently because Del Mar is one of the few beaches in San Diego County where alcohol consumption is permitted.
Violators face $100 fines for the first offense.
